A 27-year-old House Springs man was arrested after he allegedly was found with a stolen U-Haul box truck at a gas station in the Fenton area. The truck had been stolen from RC Logistics, 2931 High Ridge Blvd., in High Ridge, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
An RC Logistics employee called the Sheriff’s Office about the missing truck on Oct. 4 and said a customer had returned the truck on Sept. 26, but the key had not been returned. The employee said he discovered the truck missing on Oct. 3 and contacted the customer who had returned it without the key. He said the customer said he had given the key to an employee, the report said.
A deputy spotted the stolen 2014 Ford Econoline E-450 truck on Oct. 7 at the BP gas station, 101 Old Sugar Creek Road, in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. The truck was parked at a gas pump, and when the suspect came out of the convenience store, the deputy arrested him, according to the report.
The man allegedly had the key to the truck, and a gas station employee told the deputy the man was the only person in the truck when it arrived at the gas station, the report said.
The man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. The Sheriff’s Office will seek a first-degree tampering charge against the suspect through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
He also said the truck was returned to its owner.
