This home on Glen Oaks Drive west of Festus was damaged by a fire Sunday.

Ten local fire departments and districts helped with a call Sunday evening (March 17) at a home in the 10000 block of Glen Oaks Drive west of Festus, said David Brown, chief of the Mapaville Fire Protection District.

Brown said two people live in the home and made it out safely after a neighbor notified them about the fire.

Mapaville Fire got a call at 4:56 p.m. about the blaze, and firefighters were on the scene at 5:01 p.m. It took about an hour to get the fire under control, Brown said.

“It started in the area of the flue and developed into the attic from there,” he said.

Brown said part of the roof is gone, and the home had a lot of water damage.

The residents were not able to return to the home but were able to stay in a guest house that also sits on the property, Brown said.

He said the Red Cross was called to help the residents.

Mapaville was on the scene until about 8:30 p.m. cleaning up, Brown said.

The Crystal City and Festus fire departments and the Antonia, De Soto Rural, Dunklin, Goldman, Hematite, Hillsboro and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts helped with the call, as did the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District.
