Flames

A kitchen fire damaged a home in the 3300 block of Breezy Point Drive in Byrnes Mill last week. No one was injured, High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said.

Residents first tried to put out the stove fire themselves before being overwhelmed by the flames. They evacuated the home and called 911 for help.

The High Ridge Fire Protection District got a call about the fire the evening of July 11. When firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:31 p.m., no smoke or flames could be seen from the outside of the property. However, once they entered the home, they saw the stove and surrounding cabinets on fire, Barton said.

Firefighters used two extinguishers to put out the blaze. It took them about 15 minutes to completely put it out. Then, firefighters checked the rest of the home for damage and cleared it, Barton said.

“The residents had used the stove and cleaned it earlier in the day,” he said. “The cause of the fire is ruled accidental.”

Barton said the home is still habitable.

Firefighters gave the residents additional smoke detectors before they left the scene.

The Cedar Hill and Eureka fire protection districts helped with the call. The North Jefferson Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
