Eureka Police are investigating the theft of gas from a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado after a hole was drilled into its gas tank. The pickup had been parked at the commuter lot near the intersection of Fourth Street and Hwy. 109, police reported.
The victim, a 25-year-old Eureka man, reported the damage on Oct. 2 after a local mechanic confirmed a hole was drilled into the gas tank. The estimated cost to replace the tank was $1,200, the report said.
The man said he parked the pickup at about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the commuter lot. When he returned that night, he noticed his gas tank was empty, according to the report.
He said he went to the QuikTrip gas station, 290 E. Fourth St., and filled up the pickup. However, when he started the engine, gas started leading under the Silverado, the report said.
As of Oct. 14, no suspects had been identified, Capt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
