A 31-year-old Hillsboro woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possessing a substance believed to be heroin. The woman was arrested after she was pulled over for allegedly driving a car with its trunk open in the parking lot at Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, Eureka Police reported.

Before police arrived, the woman reportedly had been driving erratically on the lot, nearly hitting another vehicle and then parking in a no-parking zone. Officers were called to the department store at about 9:05 p.m. March 29 because the woman allegedly appeared to be unconscious in the 2018 Honda Accord stopped in the no-parking zone, the report said

An officer arrived and after reportedly seeing the woman driving in the parking lot with the car’s trunk open, stopped the Accord. The driver allegedly told the officer she had been sleeping in her car and had recently taken heroin and meth. She also allegedly said she had heroin capsules and syringes in her car, Eureka Police reported.

The officer arrested the woman, searched the car and allegedly found two capsules containing a white powdery substance in the driver-side door, as well as a metal container containing open capsules and a rolled-up dollar bill in the passenger’s side seat and five syringes in the center console, the report said.

The woman was taken to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton for evaluation. While at the hospital, the officer reportedly found a bag in the woman’s pants’ pocket that contained a capsule with a white powdery substance inside it. The woman allegedly told the officer the capsule contained heroin, according to the report.

After being evaluated at the hospital, the woman was taken to the Eureka Police Station, where she was booked and released to a sober driver pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, DWI and driving with a revoked license, Lt. Michael Werges said.
