A 27-year-old Hillsboro man and a 39-year-old Imperial woman have been arrested for alleged burglary. The two reportedly ransacked unlocked vehicles in a detached garage at a home in the 1100 block of Tracy Lane northwest of Hillsboro and stole more than $5,000 worth of items, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim, a 49-year-old Hillsboro man, returned home at about 10:55 a.m. Jan. 26 and saw a man run from the garage and into a wooded area behind the house. Pry marks were found on the east side of the garage, and two unlocked vehicles were ransacked, the report said.
Multiple DeWalt power tools, remote-control cars, car batteries and hand tools valued at $5,989 were stolen. In addition, some items that belonged to the victim were found on the west side of the garage, and there were tire marks near the garage, according to the report.
The Hillsboro man and Imperial woman were found near the home. The Sheriff’s Office recovered some of the stolen items and returned them to the owner, Bissell said.
The two suspects were booked and released pending application for warrants. The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against them through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree burglary, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
