Logan Michael Broeker, 37, of Hillsboro has been sentenced to 24 years in prison following several felony convictions and probation violations, according to court documents.

Broeker pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance stemming from an August 2017 incident, when a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was called to a home in the 800 block of Butler Court in the Arnold area to check on his well being after a witness saw him yelling and kicking things in a shed. Broeker was found with fentanyl and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

On Nov. 8, 2019, Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor J. Melenbrink sentenced him to five years in prison. Also that day Melenbrink executed three sentences Broeker previously was sentenced to tied to incidents in July 2014, when he stole a Samsung Galaxy 5 cell phone from Rent A Center, 762 S. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City. After the theft, a sales associate confronted Broeker, who was in a vehicle in the parking lot, and he displayed a knife and threatened to cut the associate, the probable-cause statement said.

Broeker then got out of the vehicle, put the knife on the ground and pushed the associate before driving away. He then fled from a police officer who was trying to pull him over along Hwy. 61-67. During the pursuit, Broeker didn’t stop at a stop sign, illegally changed lanes, failed to keep his lane and nearly struck a Crystal City Police vehicle near the northern city limits, the report said.

In that case, Broeker pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest, and in March 2017, he was sentenced to 10 years for receiving stolen property and seven years each for the other two offenses, with the three terms to be served consecutively, for a total of 24 years. However, the sentences were suspended and he was placed on five years’ probation.

Broeker violated the probation, though, and in August 2018, the sentences were executed. After completing a treatment program, however, Broeker was released in January 2019 on five years’ probation, but he again violated the probation, and Melenbrink executed the previous sentences. That 24-year sentence is to be served concurrent, or at the same time, with the five-year term connected to the Aug. 2017 incident, court papers indicate.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Travis D. Partney handled the cases.

In addition, Broeker is facing charges tied to an April 2019 incident in Jefferson County, including second-degree domestic assault and tampering with a witness, each one a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, as well as fourth-degree domestic assault, a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum $2,000 fine; and second-degree property damage, a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a maximum $1,000 fine, the report said..

He is scheduled on Feb. 3 to appear before Jefferson County Div. 10 Associate Circuit Judge Jeffrey T. Coleman in that case.

Broeker currently is in the Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
