Hillsboro firefighters rescued a cat, in their own firehouse.
The incident began the evening of June 29, when the cat was found on top of the transmission in a firetruck. Crews could not coax it out, said Chief Brian Gaudet of the Hillsboro Fire Protection District.
Later, the cat was discovered in the attic at the firehouse, 120 Fifth St., in Hillsboro.
“On Sunday (June 30), the cat had gotten into the attic,” Gaudet said. “By early morning (July 1), the cat was caught in a humane trap. We brought it down safely.”
He said the story had an even happier ending, after Hillsboro Fire posted a story about the cat rescue on Facebook.
“Within two hours, we had a family adopt it and take it to their house,” Gaudet said.
He said the incident gives credence to a cliche about firefighters.
“Yes, the rumor is true; we rescue cats,” he said.
