Kenneth Cook

Kenneth Edward Cook, 57, allegedly attacked a family member who he lives with in the 1200 block of Tinhouse Road southwest of Hillsboro. The man, who Cook is related to, fled from the home fearing he would be attacked again, according to court documents.

Cook has been charged with felony first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was arrested on April 30, and as of May 1, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.

According to a probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Cook hit his family member in the head with a rock, cutting the victim’s head and causing his eye to nearly swell shut.

The man was able to get away from Cook, who threw a rusty metal cog at him while he was fleeing, the report said.

Cook allegedly has attacked the other man multiple times, according to the report.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office wrote in court documents that Cook is a persistent offender. He was found guilty of two separate charges of possession of a controlled substance in March 2021 in Jefferson County, court records show.
