The Missouri State Highway Patrol was trying to locate the driver of an SUV who sped away from a trooper this past weekend on I-55 in Arnold. A person of interest has been identified, but the patrol is not releasing information about the person until he or she is identified as the driver, Cpl. Dallas Thompson said today, March 4.

At about 6:15 a.m. Sunday, March 3, a trooper attempted to stop the driver of a Dodge Journey who allegedly was failing to maintain a single lane on southbound I-55 near Richardson Road. The driver allegedly sped away and got off the interstate at the Imperial Main Street exit before getting back onto northbound I-55 in Imperial, the report said.

The trooper continued to pursue the Journey on northbound I-55. The chase allegedly exceeded more than 100 mph at times on the interstate, according to the report.

The trooper stopped pursuing the SUV when the driver entered a construction zone on the interstate in south St. Louis County. However, the driver exited I-55 at Carondelet Boulevard in St. Louis, the report said.

The Journey was found abandoned at about 6:40 a.m. on Comstock Drive, which is between Carondelet Boulevard and Weber Road, according to the report.

Thompson asked anyone with information about the driver to call the Highway Patrol at 636-300-2800.
