Dog rescued from High Ridge house fire

A home in the 4100 block of Carolyn Drive in High Ridge was damaged in a May 13 fire.

Firefighters rescued a dog from a High Ridge home in the 4100 block of Carolyn Drive as fire rapidly spread through the home, High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said.

Barton said firefighters were called to the split-level home at 9:24 a.m. May 13 with reports that a fire in the home had already spread from the backside of the structure into the attic.

Crews from the Saline Valley Fire Protection District arrived on the scene first and were able to rescue the dog from the upper floor of the home.

The husband and wife who live at the home were not there when the fire started, Barton said. The cause of the fire was unknown, but the department’s fire marshal did not deem it suspicious, Barton said.

“When we first entered the house, we began a search to find out if there were any residents or animals,” Barton said. “The dog was found upstairs and was alive and kind of running around once crews got him outside the building. He was taken to the vet for observation overnight.”

The fire was extinguished at 9:45 a.m. and investigators left the scene by 2:40 p.m., Barton said.

The Fenton and Eureka fire protection districts assisted with the fire.
