Hector Garcia Montes, 45, of High Ridge has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for attacking his wife with a machete when the two lived in unincorporated Fenton, court documents show.
On March 21, Montes pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic assault - serious physical injury, a class A felony, and Jefferson County Div. 6 Circuit Judge Troy A. Cardona sentenced him to 15 years in prison, according to court documents.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Travis D. Partney handled the case.
In November 2016, Montes and his wife were arguing about their marriage at their home in the 400 block of Saline Road. The victim told Montes, “the marriage was not working out,” the probable-cause statement in the case said.
After the wife went to bed in the master bedroom, Montes came in and began striking her with the sharp edge of the machete, leaving her with lacerations on her face, neck, back of her head and hands. Two of the woman’s fingertips were severed, and both her eye socket and nose were seriously injured. She told police she feared for her life, the report said.
Montes allegedly told officers, “I tried to kill her,” according to the report.
Montes currently is in the Eastern Reception and Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
