A 28-year-old High Ridge man was arrested after he allegedly was found driving a stolen pickup in Eureka. He said he had agreed to buy the 1997 Ford F-150 from a 61-year-old Pacific man but had not made any payments, Eureka Police reported.
A Eureka Police officer saw the pickup at about 2:35 p.m. Oct. 26 while patrolling near the intersection of Bald Hill Road and Dreyer Avenue. When the officer checked the license plate on the F-150, he discovered the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had reported it stolen, according to the police report.
The officer followed the pickup and stopped it on a Meramec Boulevard near West Fifth Street. The driver said he had a verbal agreement with the previous owner to buy it for $1,500 and pay between $200 to $250 a month, but he had not made a payment since buying it three months earlier, the report said.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree tampering Lt. Michael Werges said.
