A 25-year-old Herculaneum man was arrested at his home more than two weeks after he failed to return a rental van to an Arnold U-Haul rental location. The van, which was worth about $35,000, was recovered in the parking lot outside the Aldi grocery store, 11185 S. Towne Square, in St. Louis County, Arnold Police reported.
An employee from the Ace Hardware store, 1520 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold, where the van was rented told police the Herculaneum man rented the van on Feb. 13 and was supposed to return it on Feb. 14. The employee also said the man had been contacted several times about returning the van, but when he still had not returned it on Feb. 28, the business contacted police, the report said.
Herculaneum Police officers arrested the man at about 9:50 a.m. March 2 at his home on Reservoir Street. He was taken to the Arnold Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants, the report said.
Arnold Police will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for stealing a motor vehicle, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.
