A 35-year-old Herculaneum man has been arrested for allegedly stealing speakers, tools and other items from a garage in the 100 block of Meadow Lane in the Festus area. The burglary happened at 6:20 p.m. Oct. 30, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The Sheriff’s Office got a call about a burglary in progress and while heading to the scene, a deputy passed the suspect driving a red Chevrolet SUV on Meadow Lane. When the deputy got to the scene of the burglary, a witness who reported it told the deputy that the suspect had just left in the red SUV, the report said.
The deputy was able to catch up with the SUV and pulled it over. More than one person was inside the SUV, but the Herculaneum man allegedly said he was the one who took the items from the garage, according to the report.
Stolen items included two Sony speakers, three KLH speakers, a Skil circular saw, a Craftsman toolbox and a Campbell air compressor. In all, the items were valued at $740, the report said.
The man was booked and released pending application for warrants. The Sheriff’s Office will seek burglary charges against him, Lt. Gary Higginbotham said.
