Jodie N. Hampton, 36, of Festus is facing two felonies for reportedly shooting in the direction of a 45-year-old man in their home in the 100 block of Hancock Court. The man was not injured in the alleged domestic dispute, authorities reported.
Festus Police Chief Doug Wendel said the victim reported the incident about 12:30 p.m. May 9.
“We received a call of a subject stating he had been in an altercation with his girlfriend,” Wendel said. “She picked up a handgun and shot it in his general direction. He was not hit.
“He called police. Officers arrested her for assault.”
According to the probable-cause statemen in the case, the victim told officers that “Jodie pulled a pistol from her waistband and pointed at his direction. Hampton followed (the victim) to the main bedroom, where Hampton fired the pistol in (the victim’s) direction.”
The victim reported that Hampton fired a second shot in another part of the house while he was still in the bedroom.
The statement also says that at one point before the victim heard the second shot, Hampton went into the kitchen “where she began to attempt to burn plastic on the stove.” After the victim heard Hampton go outside, he went into the kitchen to turn off the stove.
Hampton was arrested May 9, and the next day the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged her with first-degree assault, a class B felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by a minimum of three years in prison.
As of Tuesday, she was being held on no bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
