Zackary Goughenour, 20, of Eureka has been charged for allegedly attacking a teenager outside a home in Overland. Goughenour allegedly texted a 17-year-old male and challenged the victim to a fight, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reported.
Goughenour was charged Monday with first-degree assault, a class B felony that carries a penalty of five to 15 years in prison; unlawful use of a weapon, a class E felony that is punishable by up to four years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000; and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by three to 15 years in prison, court records show.
As of Tuesday, Goughenour was being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond in St. Louis County Jail, according to court documents.
According to an Overland Police Department investigation, after Goughenour texted the teenager on Monday, he drove to the victim’s home and began messing with the vehicles outside the house. The teenager and his father came outside to confront Goughenour.
Goughenour allegedly pointed a gun at the teen and his father and then allegedly struck the teenager in the face with the gun before putting it back in his vehicle, according to the report.
Goughenour and the teenager then started fighting, and they were still fighting when police arrived. The officers arrested Goughenour, and an officer allegedly found a gun in Goughenour’s vehicle, the report said.
“While a fistfight in and of itself is not the best solution to personal differences, bringing a gun to a fistfight is a good way to end up in jail,” St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell said in a written statement announcing the charges.
