A garage in the 5900 block of Dulin Road in House Springs and three vehicles parked nearby were destroyed in a fire on Nov. 18, said Chief John Barton of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
He said High Ridge Fire got a call about the blaze at 1:34 p.m., and while firefighters were on their way to the scene, a column of black smoke could be seen from a mile away. Upon arrival at 1:44 p.m., the firefighters found the garage completely engulfed and partially collapsed. Three vehicles parked outside the garage also were on fire, as was brush in a nearby acre of wooded property, Barton said.
He said two adults at the home heard “sounds of items in the garage exploding,” alerting them to the blaze. Multiple water lines from two trucks were used to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control at 2:10 p.m.
The fire was contained to the garage and vehicles, so there was no damage to the home, Barton said.
High Ridge Fire Marshal Ron Tisius investigated the blaze and said it did not appear suspicious, but he did not determine the cause, Barton said.
The Cedar Hill, Saline Valley, Goldman and Eureka fire protection districts helped with the call. The Big River Ambulance District also responded to the scene. Approximately 25 firefighters were on scene and used nine pieces of firefighting equipment, Barton added.
