jcso 2 children dead 5-28-24

Investigators search a Mazda SUV that was driven this morning to Festus City Hall and Police Station on Tuesday morning by a woman who allegedly told officers she killed two of her children.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a truck from Tops Unlimited, as well as items from a customer’s trailer at a neighboring business, Jerry Haas Race Cars. The cabinet and countertop business and the stock car racing manufacturer and supply business are located near the intersection of Biltmore Drive and Haas Lane in unincorporated Fenton, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

A black SUV reportedly was seen on surveillance video at 3:11 a.m. Feb. 13 pulling into the Tops Unlimited parking lot, 700 Biltmore Lane. Someone then broke the door handle on a 1996 Dodge flatbed truck and stole it, the report said.

About 10 minutes later the stolen truck was then seen on surveillance at Jerry Haas Race Cars, 350 Haas Lane, where someone broke into a customer’s 30-foot enclosed racing trailer and stole a large toolbox, tools, generators, communication devices used for racing and other items, according to the report.

The flatbed truck was valued at about $8,000, and the stolen items from the trailer were worth about $22,000, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

As of Feb. 17, the flatbed truck and other stolen items had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the thefts to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
