Smoke coming from a home in the 1000 block of Lisa Marie Court south of De Soto on Sunday morning (Aug. 9) turned out to be a fire in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning unit, which firefighters quickly extinguished, said Chief Tom Fitzgerald of the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District.
He said people were in the home when the fire started, and they all got out uninjured.
The fire district got a call around 6:30 a.m. about the fire, Fitzgerald said.
“Our firefighters used an extinguisher,” he said.
Damage was contained to the HVAC unit, Fitzgerald added.
Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour, he said.
The De Soto Fire Department and the Hematite helped with the call, and the Antonia Fire Protection District moved up to cover the De Soto Rural firehouse. The Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District also responded, Fitzgerald said.
