A Sept. 22 fire destroyed a mobile home in the 400 block of Sequoia Drive south of Festus, displacing a woman from her home, said Lt. Josh Heath of the Hematite Fire Protection District.
No one was injured, Heath said.
Hematite Fire got a call at 10:40 p.m. about the fire, he said.
“It’s a single-wide mobile home,” Heath said. “There was no one home. The owner showed up later on. There was light smoke when we got there about 10:45.”
He said the American Red Cross was called to assist the woman.
“The fire was contained to the back bedroom,” Heath said. “We did have heat and smoke damage throughout the residence. It was a total loss.”
Heath said the fire appears accidental.
“The cause is undetermined,” he said. “Nothing looks suspicious.”
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 12:40 p.m., he said.
The Mapaville and De Soto Rural fire protection districts and the Festus Fire Department helped with the call. The De Soto Fire Department moved up to the staff the Hematite Fire Station. Joachim-Plattin Ambulance also responded to the fire. Heath said.
