Excavation work for a home to be built in the 100 block of Bogey Boulevard in Arnold was halted Thursday morning (Sept. 12) when a piece of heavy equipment was destroyed by fire. No one was hurt in the fire, Rock Fire spokesman Ron Harder said.
The fire started at about 11 a.m. at the construction site near the Arnold Golf Club, 1 Golfview Dr., and firefighters arrived at 11:03 a.m. They had the fire under control in about 15 to 20 minutes, Harder said.
“They are doing a lot of construction there,” Harder said. “Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the excavator upon arrival.”
He said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
The Mehlville Fire Protection District and Rock Township Ambulance District assisted with the call, Harder said.
