Fire destroys De Soto-area mobile home

A fire destroyed a mobile home on Hwy. 21 outside of De Soto.

A fire destroyed a mobile home in the 13000 block of Hwy. 21 just outside De Soto on Sept. 21. No one was injured, according to the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District.

“I’m not sure if anyone was residing in (the mobile home) or if it was storage,” De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.

At 10:57 p.m., Jefferson County 911 dispatched firefighters to a first-alarm residential fire at the mobile home. The first crews arrived at 11:05 p.m. and found the mobile home heavily engulfed in flames, which were threatening a nearby garage. The fire was quickly brought under control, according to a written statement from the district.

The garage was damaged, but it was not a total loss, the statement said.

The De Soto Fire Department and the Hillsboro and Hematite fire protection districts assisted with the fire. Potosi Fire Protection District and the Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District covered De Soto Rural’s other calls.
