High winds made it difficult to battle mobile home fires this morning, Feb. 28, in House Springs, High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said.
He said his district received a call at about 10:30 a.m. for fires on multiple properties in the 5500 block of Stonecrest Drive.
“There were two mobile homes. One was destroyed,” Barton said. “The other one had severe damage. There was also a shed on another nearby property destroyed and an RV on another property that had minor damage.
“There were 40 mph winds that helped spread the fire. It definitely made it challenging.”
He said the two mobile homes and the RV were occupied when the fire started, with all occupants leaving their homes safely. However, while standing outside, a female resident of one of the homes, received a minor burn when fire debris landed on her, he said. She was treated at the scene and was not transported.
“Firefighters found a dog in one of the mobile homes and let it out,” Barton said. “The dog seemed to be OK.”
He said the district’s fire marshal determined the fire “was accidental due to people burning items during high winds.”
The agency requested the Red Cross to assist those affected by the fire.
Firefighters remained on the scene until early afternoon. The Cedar Hill, Goldman, Saline Valley, Antonia, Eureka and Fenton fire districts helped with the call and the North Jefferson County Ambulance District also responded.
