A fire heavily damaged a home outside De Soto on Monday, April 24. No one was injured, according to De Soto Rural Fire Protection District Chief Tom Fitzgerald.
Firefighters were dispatched to the house fire in the 5300 block of Hwy. H at 8 a.m. and arrived within 10 minutes, he said.
Fitzgerald said he believes two adults had left their home and soon after were notified the house was on fire and then returned and got their dog out.
The chief said firefighters found significant fire in the attic and on the first floor the house. Both the house and its contents were extensively damaged because.
Fitzgerald said he believes it could have been an electrical fire.
The couple did not need assistance from the American Red Cross because family and friends are helping them.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:30 a.m.
The Festus and De Soto fire departments and the Hillsboro, Hematite and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts helped with the call. The Valle Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
