A fire damaged a house in the 1700 block of Spruce Drive in High Ridge. Four adults, a toddler and an infant were in the house when one of the adults discovered a fire in the basement, and they evacuated the home safely, High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 3:58 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, and when the first truck arrived at 4:02 p.m., heavy black smoke was coming from the lower level and the home’s garage, Barton said.
“The fire was under control and extinguished at 5:32 p.m., and the family received assistance from the Red Cross,” he said. “The home had a significant amount of smoke and heat damage but was not destroyed.”
Barton said firefighters remained on the scene until 8:15 p.m.
He said the High Ridge Fire Protection District’s fire marshal and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the fire, and as of this morning, Feb. 17, the cause of the fire had not been determined.
The Fenton Fire Protection District helped with the call.
