A fire damaged a Festus home on June 6.

Festus Fire Chief Jeff Broombaugh said firefighters were dispatched at 9:25 a.m. to a house in the 500 block of Cedar Lane, When the first firefighters arrived, all five occupants of the home were out of the house and heavy fire was coming from the rear of the house and extending into the attic.

He said at least one person, a man, had minor burns. He said personnel from Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District checked all the occupants on the scene, but no one was transported to the hospital.

“There was significant damage to the rear of the house and the kitchen and a lot of smoke and water damage throughout the house,” Broombaugh said, adding the cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Crystal City and Herculaneum fire departments and Dunklin, Hematite, Mapaville and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts helped with the fire. He said the department reached out to the American Red Cross to assist the family.
