A fire early Tuesday, Aug. 22, damaged a dump truck parked in a Festus driveway, as well as the siding on two nearby houses. No injuries were reported, said Chuck Boyer, assistant chief for the Festus Fire Department.
At 4:20 a.m., Festus Fire got a call about the blaze in the 800 block of Warne Street, Boyer said.
“Our firetruck arrived and found a commercial dump truck in a driveway on fire with the cab fully engulfed,” he said. “It was parked in between two houses. The fire burned the siding on both houses. I would assume the dump truck was a total loss.”
Boyer said the dump truck driver was home asleep after working a late shift.
“(The dump truck driver) said he arrived home around 2 a.m.,” Boyer said. “He was working an evening job spreading asphalt. I believe someone in the house called in the fire. We had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. We remained on scene until 5:45 a.m.”
Boyer said the cause of the fire was “undetermined,” although it was not considered suspicious.
The Crystal City and Herculaneum fire departments and the Hematite, Jefferson R-7 and Dunklin fire protection districts helped with the call, and the Mapaville Fire Protection District moved up to cover the Festus Fire Station.
