A 22-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman, both of Festus, were arrested at about 4 p.m. May 27 after they allegedly tried to cash a forged check in Arnold. The incident happened at Commerce Bank, 956 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold Police reported.
A cashier noticed a check the women had asked to be cashed had a liquid above where the check was endorsed, and the check appeared to be made out to someone else. The cashier called the police, who arrested the women without further incident at the bank, the report said.
Each of the women allegedly told the officers that it was the other woman who was forging and cashing checks, according to the report.
Officers searched the 2020 Nissan the women arrived at the bank in and allegedly found a substance believed to be methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as mail that was not addressed to either woman and items typically used to alter checks, the report said.
The women were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the women through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and forgery, Capt. Rich Shular said.
