Festus Police patch

Festus Police are seeking a St. Louis man who has been charged in connection with a shooting on Oct. 14 that left a victim with multiple gunshot wounds, Police Chief Tim Lewis reported today (Oct. 20).

Lewis said today that the suspect, Tyrone Ross, 22, “is not in custody at this time.”

Ross was charged Wednesday (Oct. 19) with first-degree assault, a class A felony that carries a maximum penalty of 10 to 30 years or life in prison.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at 215 North Ninth St. and located the 30-year-old victim at a nearby residence in the 800 block of Moore Street, Lewis said.

The victim was able to give them a statement before being taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur for medical treatment, a Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District spokesman said.

Ross and the victim, who did not know each other, had been at a home on North Ninth Street where the homeowner allegedly was showing Ross a gun, the probable-cause statement said.

The victim reportedly got nervous and asked the homeowner to take him home, so the two walked outside and got in a car, but the homeowner left the victim alone in the car while he returned to the house to get a cell phone. That’s when Ross, who had walked outside, accompanied by his girlfriend, to move his vehicle, approached the car where the victim was sitting and after talking to him, allegedly pulled out a Glock handgun and shot the victim about six times, the report said.

Then, Ross allegedly went back inside the house and told the homeowner to call the police and tell them that the victim had tried to steal his car and that his (the homeowner’s) wife had shot the victim, according to the report.

Ross then reportedly laid down the handgun, got the homeowner’s wife’s phone, dialed 911, handed the phone to the homeowner and left, the report said.

Lewis said the victim was shot “all over his body.”
