A Jefferson County woman nicked her finger on a razor blade when she grabbed the handle of a shopping cart at the Festus Walmart store on Sunday (July 2). At 1 p.m., Festus Police were called to the store to investigate, Capt. Doug Wendel said.
“There was a scraper-style razor blade tucked under the plastic part of the handle,” he said.
Wendel said the woman who reported the razor blade cut her finger while cleaning the handle of the shopping cart with an antibacterial wipe. She required no medical treatment.
Wendel said investigators have no leads.
“I’m not sure if the store has reviewed security footage,” he said today (July 3).
Wendel said this is the first time Festus Police are investigating a razor blade stuck in a shopping cart handle. “I’ve heard of it happening other places,” he said.
He recommended that shoppers always remain aware of their surroundings.
“And make an effort to check shopping carts, especially if you are putting a child in the cart,” he said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
