A 53-year-old Festus man recently tracked down scrap metal that had been stolen from his home, and his work could help police find the thieves, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said Tuesday (Oct. 7).
Lewis said the victim contacted his department Oct. 2 to report the theft from his home in the 300 block of Holly Drive.
“(The victim) called us and said someone went into his garage and stole several boxes of scrap metal,” Lewis said. “He called around asking about this. He said scrap metal matching his description was at G&J (Recycling) on Herky-Horine Road.”
Festus Police officers went to G & J in the Pevely area and gained information that could aid in the investigation.
“Whenever you go to scrap yards to sell something, you have to leave information with them,” Lewis said. “We have two suspects in the case. They have not been arrested, but we are seeking charges against them.”
Lewis said the stolen scrap metal was valued at more than $200.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
