Arnold Police arrested a 40-year-old Festus man found sleeping in the foyer of Family Video, 1845 Jeffco Blvd., for alleged possession of drugs. The man allegedly tried to run from police before he was arrested, Arnold Police reported.
Police were called to the video rental store at about 9:45 a.m. Dec. 20 when a customer reported the man was asleep in the foyer, where rentals may be returned. When police arrived, the man was still asleep, the report said.
Police woke the man and learned he already was wanted in Arnold on a warrant for misdemeanor shoplifting. When the man found out he was going to be arrested for the warrant, he fled from the store, according to the report.
He ran around the side of the building and tripped, and officers took him into custody without further incident. An officer allegedly found a glass pipe, pills and a white crystal-like substance in the man’s pockets, police reported.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked, given a new court date for the shoplifting summons and released pending application for further warrants, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest, Capt. Rich Shular said.
