A 34-year-old Festus man died early this morning (March 1), about an hour after he was stabbed at the Crystal Tavern, 118 Mississippi Ave. A 38-year-old De Soto man was arrested for allegedly stabbing the victim, Crystal City Police Chief Chad Helms reported.
He said this morning that he was not ready to disclose the victim’s name. The suspect’s name will not be released unless charges are filed against him.
The suspect was being held this morning at the Crystal City Jail, Helms said.
At about 11:25 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 28), officers were dispatched to the tavern and found the victim had been stabbed in the chest. He was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where he was pronounced dead at 12:28 a.m. this morning.
Helms said he does not know what led to the stabbing.
“Our agency is continuing to work on this incident to find out all the answers to what exactly happened,” he said.
