man in handcuffs

A 37-year-old Festus man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Festus home and assaulting her. The incident happened Sept. 14 at a home in the 1200 block of Rankin Road, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

At 10:47 a.m., Festus Police got a call about a disturbance at the home.

“It was reported as a burglary and a fight in progress,” Lewis said. “A 37-year-old Festus man broke into the house and was assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The victim is a 39-year-old Festus woman. Another occupant of the house dove out a window and called police when they saw him break into the house. We arrived and arrested him. He resisted a little.”

The victim refused medical treatment, Lewis said.

The suspect was booked and released pending application for warrants. Festus Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree burglary, property damage and third-degree assault against the suspect, Lewis said.
