A 29-year-old Festus man was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Arnold. Officers stopped the man at about 2:15 p.m. Aug. 15 in the 2000 block of Key West Drive, Arnold Police reported.
Officers pulled over the 2003 Cadillac the man was driving after he allegedly made a wide turn from Hwy. 141 onto the West Outer Road with the car driving on the shoulder. The driver was unable to provide identification, and when he was asked if there was anything illegal in the car, he said he had borrowed it and didn’t know, the report said.
A police dog was brought to the scene and alerted the officer to possible illegal drugs in the car. Officers searched the man’s backpack and allegedly found several bags inside that contained a white crystal substance believed to be meth. Officers also found a syringe in a pocket on the driver-side door, according to the report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, Capt. Rich Shular said.
