The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 63-year-old Festus-area man for allegedly attacking another man for being on his property in the 1400 block of Eva Way south of Festus, authorities reported.

The alleged victim was mowing grass on June 24 when the Festus-area man approached him holding a piece of wood. The two argued about the man cutting grass that was on the other man’s property, the report said.

During the argument, the Festus-area man allegedly hit the other man in the chest with the wood. The man who was struck refused medical treatment, according to the report.

The Festus-area man was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and released pending the application for charges, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree assault, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
