Festus Police patch

Festus Police are investigating a theft from a home’s garage in the 300 block of Andy Habsieger Street, where tools worth about $400 were stolen. The home’s alarm system alerted the victim that the burglary was happening, but the intruder got away, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

He said the incident occurred about 1:45 a.m. Sept. 24.

“The victim is a 24-year-old man,” Lewis said. “He said his alarm system activated, telling him an intruder was in his garage. He ran there and saw someone run out of the garage and enter a four-door Kia sedan. We got doorbell camera video confirming the information.”

The suspect left the scene in the Kia, Lewis said.

He said the garage was unlocked.

“It looks like a crime of opportunity,” Lewis said.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 27, none of the stolen items had been recovered and no arrests had been made, he said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is urged to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
