Sheridan Arland Lane II

Sheridan Arland Lane II, 38, of Fenton has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony drug and gun charges as well as a misdemeanor. He had been on probation after being sentenced to 17 years in prison in July 2019, court documents show.

In the more recent case, Lane pleaded guilty Oct. 22 to possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; unlawful possession of a firearm, a class D felony; and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor. Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor J. Melenbrink sentenced Lane to 10 years in prison for the possession charge, seven years for the gun charge and six months for resisting arrest, according to court papers.

Lane will serve the three terms concurrently, or at the same time, but he will serve his previous 17-year sentence consecutively with the 10 years, the commitment report said.

Assistant prosecuting attorney Lindsay E. Whalen handled the case.

Lane’s latest sentence stems from a June 29, 2020, incident at the Circle K gas station, 5602 Hwy. PP, in High Ridge. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw Lane park a Chrysler Sebring near the entrance of the gas station’s parking lot. Then, after a woman pulled up to one of the station’s gas pumps in a Dodge Caravan and went into the convenience store, Lane got out of the Sebring, leaving the driver-side door open, and got into the Caravan’s passenger’s seat, the report said.

The deputy walked toward the van to tell Lane about the door left open on the Sebring, and when the deputy got to the van, Lane was in the driver’s seat. When the deputy told Lane about the open door and questioned him, Lane reportedly told the officer all his identification was in the Sebring, the probable-cause statement said.

The deputy turned toward the car, and Lane started the van’s engine. The deputy told Lane to turn off the engine, but Lane shook his head, yelled, “No, I won’t,” and sped out of the gas station’s parking lot, the report said.

The woman told the deputy Lane should not have been driving the van, and she said she didn’t know him very well. She said Lane went by the name Shelby, and she told the deputy Lane allegedly was known for dealing drugs, according to the report.

The deputy searched the Sebring, and he found a gun, a large sum of money, several kinds of narcotics wrapped in plastic bags, a digital scale and Lane’s wallet and birth certificate, the report said.

Lane was arrested June 30 in St. Louis after warrants were issued against him, and he was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, authorities said.

In July 2019, Lane pleaded guilty to nine felony charges in Jefferson County and was sentenced to 17 years in prison. However, he was released on five years’ probation after completing a treatment program, court records show.

Lane was arrested in April 2017 for selling or possessing equipment with altered identification numbers, a class E felony, and in December 2017 for first-degree tampering, a class D felony. Both arrests occurred in Jefferson County, according to court documents.

He also was arrested in July 2019 in Jefferson County for possession of a controlled substance, first-degree tampering and unlawful possession of a firearm, all class D felonies, as well as resisting arrest by fleeing, a class E felony. He also was charged with four counts of possession as well as the other felonies, court records show.
