The Grand Slam Sports Bar and Grill in unincorporated Fenton is closed following a fire this morning (June 12) that left the bar area seriously damaged and the rest of the building with smoke damage, said Fire Marshal Ron Tisius of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
Tisius said Ed Pupillo owns the restaurant, which is at 519 Mae Court, and the restaurant will be closed until repairs are made.
A post on Grand Slam’s Facebook page says, “We will rebuild, but it’s going to be a little bit."
Tisius said crews were dispatched to the fire at 4:11 a.m. after passersby saw smoke coming out of the building. When crews arrived on the scene at 4:19 a.m., no one was in the building.
He said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but there was no sign of wrongdoing and the fire appeared accidental. Tisius said both he and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire.
The fire was under control by 5:30 a.m. and crews left the scene at 9:30 a.m.
The Fenton and Saline Valley fire protection districts and the North Jefferson County Ambulance district helped with the call.
