A family of three was displaced after a fire damaged their home in the 5900 block of Reynolds Creek Road west of Hillsboro, said Brian Gaudet, chief of the Hillsboro Fire Protection District.
The fire district got a call at 12:51 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 15) about the blaze and arrived a couple of minutes later to the mobile home, which had a structural addition, Gaudet said.
“The family was already evacuated,” he said. “There was white smoke showing from the outside. Inside showed moderate smoke conditions. Crews quickly located the fire, which had started under the mobile home portion. They quickly extinguished the fire.”
No injuries were reported, Gaudet said.
He said the cause of the fire was determined to be “an electrical malfunction with the furnace.”
Gaudet said he believes the mobile home can be repaired and reoccupied, but the family must find other housing at least until the repairs are completed.
“Due to the electrical issues, we had to cut power to the structure,” he said. “There was also smoke damage.”
The family has found a place to stay, Gaudet added.
“They were able to stay with (other) family until repairs are made,” he said.
Firefighters left the scene by 2:06 a.m., Gaudet said.
The De Soto Fire Department and the De Soto Rural, Cedar Hill and Mapaville fire protection districts helped with the call. The Valle Ambulance District also responded to the scene, he said.
