$100 bill

Eureka Police are seeking a man who reportedly used six counterfeit $100 bills to purchase prepaid Visa gift cards at Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive. The man allegedly was seen in surveillance video making three separate purchases at different registers in the store on May 30, police reported.

Officers were called to the store at about 10:05 a.m. May 31 after an employee discovered the money used to buy the gift cards was fake, the report said.

Surveillance video reportedly showed a man wearing a white shirt, black shorts and blue facemask purchase a $300 gift card, $200 gift card and $100 gift card during a 10-minute period. He was seen leaving the store, but surveillance video did not record what vehicle he got into before leaving the parking lot, according to the report.

As of June 6, the man had not been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.

Werges also said the report and counterfeit $100 bills had been forwarded to the U.S. Secret Service.
