A 24-year-old Eureka woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after she allegedly hit a barricade and dragged it home under her Jeep, while leaving Eureka Days at 9:35 p.m. Sept. 6, Eureka Police reported.

The woman was driving a 2015 Jeep Renegade at the intersection of Hill Drive Court and Weber Drive when she allegedly hit a barricade that was blocking off Weber Drive for the festival. A witness told police the barricade became lodged under the Jeep. Then the woman drove off and allegedly nearly hit a bicyclist after failing to stop at a stop sign, police reported.

Police were able to locate the Jeep in the 600 block of Schmelz Drive, which is near the accident scene. The Jeep’s front license plate holder was damaged, the report said.

Police spoke with a man at the home who told them he had been in the Jeep with his fiancee, who was driving and did hit the barricade while the two were going home. The officers found the damaged bright green, metal barricade in a shed in the backyard of the home, according to the report.

The woman told police she would pay for the damage and then allegedly became uncooperative. She told the police she couldn’t get around the barricade because there was not enough room, and allegedly said she had been drinking, the report said.

After she refused to take a field sobriety test, the woman allegedly resisted arrest by kicking at the officers, who were able to subdue her and bring her to the Police Station. It was discovered that she had previously been arrested for suspicion of DWI, and she was held until she was sober, the report said.

Eureka Police will seek a charge for felony DWI against the woman through the St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and charges for resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and destruction of property through the Eureka Municipal Court, Capt. David Wilson said.
