A 52-year-old Eureka woman was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after she was allegedly seen driving erratically on Hwy. 109. The woman had previously been convicted of at least two prior DWI charges, Eureka Police reported.
Police were called at about 10:45 p.m. June 20 because the woman, who was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra, was allegedly unable to remain in a single lane, nearly hit multiple vehicles and drove onto a grassy shoulder on the highway. The woman drove onto I-44, but officers were unable to locate her on the interstate and proceeded to the home address of the listed owner of the pickup, the report said.
Officers saw the pickup on Legends Parkway. The woman allegedly made a left turn without signaling, and she was driving significantly slower than the posted speed limit, according to the report.
After the woman drifted into the opposite lane and failed to stop at a stop sign, officers turned on their cruiser’s lights to stop the woman.
She continued to drive to her home and stopped in the driveway, the report said.
The woman allegedly showed signs of intoxication, and she told the officers she was returning from a graduation party, according to the report.
The woman allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests, and the officers arrested her. She was transported to the Police Station, where she was booked and released to a sober driver pending the application for charges, the report said.
Eureka Police will seek a charge against the woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for persistent DWI, improper lane use and failure to use a turn signal, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
