A 19-year-old Eureka man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal merchandise from Walmart Supercenter, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, at 2:52 a.m. Sept. 17, Eureka Police reported.
A Walmart employee flagged down a police vehicle that was patrolling the parking lot to tell the officer the teenager had allegedly attempted to leave the store with a Bluetooth smart charger and a mobile device holder. The charger is valued at $26 and the holder is valued at $4, the report said.
The teen, who had the items in a Walmart bag, told the employee he had paid for the items in the back of the store. But the employee said that wasn’t possible because the only registers that were open at that time were in the front of the store, the report said.
The teenager was also seen allegedly taking a box of Pioneer speakers, valued at $56, out of the store and putting them next to a soda machine. After he was unable to leave with the bag, he picked up the box and put it down next to a green van in the parking lot, the report said.
The teen than got into a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta and attempted to drive away before being stopped by the officer, who saw the speakers next to the van, according to the report.
The teenager was arrested, taken to the Police Station where he was booked and released with a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court of stealing, Capt. David Wilson said.
