A high school connection helped Eureka Police identify two men suspected of stealing tools from Dobbs Tire and Auto Center, 1299 W. Fifth St., in Eureka. Tools worth nearly $2,700 were stolen during the incident, Eureka Police reported.

Employees told police the two men were in the auto center’s garage at about 5 p.m. Oct. 16 while the car they arrived in was worked on. One of the men allegedly distracted one of the employees while the other man allegedly stole items from a toolbox, the report said.

Two diagnostic tools and a flashlight were stolen from the toolbox. The tools were valued at $2,587.18, according to the report.

An employee at the auto service center told police he knew one of the men from high school. Police have identified the suspects and are trying to find them for questioning, Lt. Michael Werges said Nov. 6.

Werges also said the tools had not been recovered as of Nov. 6.
