shell casings

Eureka Police are keeping a closer eye on the area around Alt and Forby roads after gunshots were heard there two times in a one-week period. An officer found 15 shell casings on Alt Road after the latest incident, Eureka Police reported.

An officer was called at about 11 p.m. Oct. 5 to the area after a resident reported hearing gunshots, possibly 10 of them. Eureka Police had been notified Sept. 28 about shots fired in the same area, the report said.

When the officer arrived on Oct. 5, he did not see any vehicles in the area. However, he found five .9 mm shell casings in the southbound lane of Alt Road and 10 .223-caliber shell casings on the west shoulder of Alt Road, according to the report.

Six of the 10 .223-caliber shells appeared to have been run over by vehicles, and investigators believe those rounds were shot in September, Eureka Police reported.

There were no reports of damage from the bullets fired in the area..

As of Monday (Oct. 25), no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asked anyone with information about the gunshots to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
