Eureka Police patch

A 47-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he was seen driving erratically in the Legends subdivision. The man allegedly nearly failed to stop for a stop sign, and he struggled to make left turn from the Legends Parkway onto Palisades View Drive, police said.

An officer, at about 12:45 a.m. March 14, stopped a 2020 Volkswagen Atlas after the SUV was seen traveling at an allegedly high speed on Ball Hill Road. The man came to a sudden stop at a stop sign that caused the front of the SUV to dip down due to the sudden force of the stop, the report said.

The man then turned on Legends Parkway, and when he made a left turn onto Palisades View Drive, it appeared he was initially going to make a U-turn on Legends Parkway before cutting back to turn onto Palisades View Drive, according to the report.

The officer turned on his cruiser’s lights to stop the SUV. However, the man continued to travel on Palisades View Drive, and the officer had to turn on his cruiser’s siren before the man stopped, the report said.

The man appeared to be impaired, and he allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests. After he was arrested, an officer found a cooler bag on the front passenger’s seat that had an empty Nutrl vodka seltzer inside it, according to the report.

There also was a cup that appeared to contain some of the seltzer in a cup holder, the report said.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.

The man was issued summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI and making an improper left turn, Capt. Michael Werges said.
