A 25-year-old Eureka man was arrested after allegedly telling police officers he was in possession of cocaine. Officers found the man allegedly slumped over in the driver’s seat of a running car, Eureka Police reported.

Officers were called at about 4:55 a.m. July 19 because the 2014 Nissan Altima was outside of a home in the 5300 block of Mitschang Court. Officers attempted to wake up the man, but an officer had to use a tool to open the door, the report said.

After opening the door, the officer woke the man up and turned off the car’s engine. While officers talked with the man, he allegedly put a bag containing a white substance in his pants, according to the report.

When officers asked him to give them the bag, he did. He also allegedly told the officers the substance was powder cocaine, the report said.

The officers arrested the man, and they learned he was wanted on a warrant by the St. Louis County Police. The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and held for St. Louis County Police, according to the report.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Capt. Michael Werges said.
