Eureka Police patch

A 25-year-old St. Louis man recently was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after Eureka Police found him asleep in his truck, which was running and stopped in the roadway. At 9:25 p.m. Sept. 9, a Eureka Police officer came across a 2012 Ford F150 in the traffic lane on Old Hwy. 66 near Six Flags Road, police reported.

When the officer approached the truck, which was running and in gear, he found the driver asleep with his foot on the brake pedal. The officer tried to wake up the driver, but when that failed, the officer used a device to unlock and gain entry into the truck and turned off the ignition, according to the report.

The driver woke momentarily, but fell back asleep and the officer had to wake him again. The driver smelled like alcohol, failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer test, the report alleged.

The man was arrested, transported to the Eureka Police Station, issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court for misdemeanor DWI and released to a family member.
